We started 2009 in Naples - the best pizza I've ever tasted!! We took a day trip to Pompeii and got a few good views of Mt Vesuvius, although Naples itself was a bit trashy. On NYE, we watched a concert and drank prosecco in the plaza while nearly getting exploded by fireworks people were throwing through the crowd.
Then we accidentally got stuck in Sorrento - a beautiful town right on the sea. It ended up being a great night and we ended up staying at a really cool hotel. The first time we had just walked in without a reservation!
The next day we continued to head down to the Amalfi Coast... with a quick stop off to the Island of Capri - one of the most beautiful places in Europe. We went on a day long hike around the island - the second picture below is of a windy street down the cliff called Krupp Way. We dipped our toes in the meditterean and accidentally soaked our shoes and pants because of the waves!
Next stop Positano and Amalfi. Positano was a very picture-perfect village on the side of a cliff. It was pouring rain the whole time we were there, but we still managed to walk up and down the narrow streets. We were welcomed into the main square in Amalfi with a big band playing Christmas music! And I will always remember the lemon pasta with seafood meal we had that night... mmm... We also took a scary busride up the cliff and visited a tiny town called Ravello - some great views.

2009 update: Yup, it's been a whole year....
As my sister Frankie so eloquently put it..."The blog went to crap". My new year's resolution is to keep this thing up going forward. But first, I should probably catch up on 2009... Let's do this one month at a time.

A day at the races
As a part of Bobby's birthday present, I got him tickets to the horse races at Ascot, which is a famous track here in the UK. We used to go up to Saratoga with his grandmother and family and we had the best time, so we just had to check it out here too!
The event we attended on that day was called the "King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes" for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. Everyone was really dressed up for the races - big hats and fascinators everywhere and we even saw a guy in tails and a top hat! And although there was every different class in attendance, everyone had two things in common - drinking and gambling!
We grabbed some Pimms and lemonade (which we served at my bachelorette!), put a few pounds down on some horses with funny names and set out to our seats to watch the races. It was a beautiful day here in the UK - very rare! - and we got lucky on a few horses, but it was mostly just fun to sit outside and people watch in between!
We'll be sure to attend again next summer!

Home sweet home
(fyi - this will be short post... as most of you reading this were at these events!)
We went back to Boston for over 2 weeks in July - what a busy and fun trip! First we went down to Washington DC for Mike and Elena's wedding, which was just such a gorgeous and special weekend. Here's a pic of the happy couple cutting the cake
Then we headed back to Boston a Moore family reunion (Bobby's mom's side), my bachelorette party and my bridal shower! Here is a picture from from each:

Last but not least, we attended Mimi and Mike's wedding the night before we left. It was so lovely and much fun was had by all! Here's a pic of them dancing
It was hard to come back, but we'll be home again soon in less than a couple months for our own big day!

Lauren visits from Germany
While Bobby was away in China, my friend Lauren came to visit! I know Lauren from when we interned together at PwC in Boston (she's also a good friend of Mimi's from Holy Cross) and her and her husband Dan just moved over to Stuttgart, Germany a few months ago.
She was only here for a couple days, but we managed to do all the usual sightseeing hot-spots, plus some! We did the Tower of London tour (where they keep the Crown Jewels - I want some), went on a pub crawl in Hampstead and watched the Red Bull Flugtag in Hyde Park (people make floats and push them off a cliff to see which one travels the farthest before hitting the water). So good to catch up and I can't wait to visit them in Germany next!
